About the Artwork

Beauty Parlor, 1907. Charles M. Russell.
Watercolor, 8 1/4 x 9 3/4 inches. Charles M. Russell Museum, Gift of the Josephine Trigg Estate.

Russell depicts a Blackfeet woman dressing the hair of her husband, who sits on a painted buffalo robe and regards himself in a tack-studded hand mirror. In this version, Russell lifts the tipi cover to indicate a warm day, allowing the colors of the warm sunlight to enter the interior and brighten the background.
